Combining classic old skool flavas (think 80’s divas like Evelyn Champagne King and Melba Moore, and producers like Jam and Lewis, Kashif, and LA and Babyface) with fresh modern production, Confection gets back to the kind of feelgood music that inspired so many of the samples and melodies that dominate today’s revisionist hits. Confection is all about classic hooks and burning funk grooves, with pleny of live instrumentation to capture that indefinable schwing that separates the frontline jamz from the rest of the pack.

Featuring the sublime vocals of Sydney’s Juanita Tippins (previously an in demand backing vocalist and session singer with everyone from Sleepy Jackson and Koolism to Jade McRae and Jimmy Barnes) and the rhythmic sweetfunk guitar and keyboards styles of producer/songwriter Josh Beaglet (Swoop, Professor Groove, Fatback 4way), Confection stake out a unique space somewhere between classic acts like SOS Band , Janet Jackson and early Madonna, the raw slow grooves of modern RnB and UK acts like Basement Jaxx.

With an immediate midtempo feelgood groove courtesy of a rocking bass line and electrofunk drums, 'Fantasising' is a track from this Australian band that is taking centre stage. Soulchoonz Records have released a limited edition 12” with both the album version as well as the extended version present. Yet another 'Choon' that will stay in your head well after you heard the last note!

I’m told that Confection hail from Australia, though you wouldn’t know it from this excellent slab of retro soul. Here you can think (even fantasise … sorry!) about the great productions of Jam and Lewis and the slinky performances of the SOS Band and Janet Jackson. Vocalist Juniata Tippins nails the song with an inflection that underlines the sensuality inherent in the message, while producer Josh Beagley keep everything else solid and tight. Modern room dancers will delight in the B-side (‘I Choose You’) – an almost perfect example of the bouncy, retro modern soul groove, while as a bonus on the 12”, there’s an extended remix of ‘Fantasisn’’ which is even slinkier than the main edit.
